Benjamin Shwartz

Benjamin Shwartz is a distinguished American-Israeli conductor, recognized for his expertise in orchestral and opera conducting. He currently serves as the music director of the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie in Koblenz, Germany, and previously held the same position at the Wrocław Philharmonic. Throughout his career, Shwartz has demonstrated a strong commitment to promoting new music, showcasing his passion for innovative compositions.

Born in Los Angeles, Shwartz spent his formative years in both the United States and Israel. He pursued his musical education at the Idyllwild Arts Academy in California and later at the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied composition under James Primosch. Shwartz further refined his skills in composition with Karlheinz Stockhausen in Germany and in conducting at the Curtis Institute of Music, under the guidance of Otto-Werner Mueller, Christoph Eschenbach, and Ned Rorem. His exceptional talent has earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious Presser Award and Third Prize at the 2007 International Mahler Conducting Competition in Bamberg, Germany.
