Fred Stone (musician)

Fred Stone was a multifaceted Canadian musician, skilled in playing the flugelhorn, trumpet, and piano, as well as composing and writing. His career spanned several decades, during which he established himself as a versatile soloist, performing in both classical and jazz genres. From the 1950s to the early 1970s, Stone appeared in numerous concerts with renowned orchestras, including the Duke Ellington Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the Cleveland Orchestra, among others.
In the latter part of his career, Stone shifted his focus towards composition and education, making fewer public performances between 1971 and 1983. However, he continued to perform periodically, often with ensembles comprising his students. In 1984, he founded "Freddie's Band", a jazz ensemble based in Toronto, and performed with the group until his death in 1986. Through his work as a performer, composer, and educator, Stone left a lasting impact on the music scene, showcasing his talent and dedication to his craft.
