Richard Howard

Richard Howard was a renowned American poet, born in 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio. He pursued higher education at Columbia University, where he had the opportunity to study under the guidance of Mark Van Doren. This academic foundation would later contribute to his own career as an educator, with Howard eventually becoming an emeritus professor at Columbia University.

Throughout his career, Howard made significant contributions to the field of literature, not only as a poet but also as a literary critic, essayist, teacher, and translator. His accomplishments were recognized with his appointment as poet laureate of New York, a position he held from 1993 to 1995.
