Polish-American ophthalmologist and memoirist (1923–2021)

Sabina Zimering was a Polish-American ophthalmologist and memoirist who left an indelible mark on the world with her courageous story of survival during the Holocaust. Born in Poland in 1923, she demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination in the face of adversity, managing to survive the war by living in Germany under an assumed identity as a Catholic Pole. This experience would later become a pivotal part of her memoir, offering a unique glimpse into the hardships and struggles faced by those who lived through this tumultuous period in history.

After the war, Zimering pursued her passion for medicine, earning a medical degree from Munich Medical College, a notable achievement given that she was one of the few women and Jewish students to do so.
